More than likely Yahoo and other free mail accounts don't let you use those any more, you have to use your web browser to do that.

To my knowledge, you cannot use Outlook for Yahoo Mail. It is internet only.

Yahoo! Mail users can read their email in Outlook Express by subscribing to the Yahoo! Mail Plus service. This service allows you to use Outlook Express or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail messages.





If you are a Mail Plus user, then follow the directions outlined below:


Outlook Express allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Mail messages. Here's how:





From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server:

Select the "Advanced" tab.


In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them in Outlook Express.


If your ISP blocks port 25 or if you're unable to send email, then you will need to use port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change, please follow the directions below:








From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts"


Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the "Properties" button


Click on the "Advanced" tab


Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587

My email program suddenly fails to connect to the ymail pop and smtp servers. No error just doesn't connect.?

I am using the OSX mail program and it has connected to the ymail servers perfectly since I got my ymail address (1 or 2 months). All the pop %26amp; smtp settings are correct, I am using SSL and the correct ports but it still won't receive or send mail. I have checked the passwords are correct and I can login to the webmail site. Do they have a server problem? The mail connection doctor which comes with the OS cannot connect either.





Any ideas?

I'm afraid that you're not the only one having problems, I, my wife and 2 kids have all stopped being able to receive from yahoo via pop3 starting today (using Thunderbird e-mail clients).


Have tried to look around yahoo for news of any server outages/upgrades/failures but with no luck.





If it doesn't clear up soon (24hrs?) then I shall move to gmail!





Maybe Microsoft have already bought Yahoo and installed Vista on their servers!! ;-)
Reply:loads of other people (me included) have had problems with email starting today, not bein able to download to an external program (outlook/thunderbird etc) seems to be the major problem, no real solution as of yet, ive changed my incoming server to .com instead of .co.uk %26amp; also use by btinternet account to send from so now i can send an recieve using outlook.

Assume from a free hosting account that I picked up I can neither send nor recieve e-mails without paying for it. Now with that in mind what I want to be able to do is have a contact form and someone just be able to have it send me e-mail. But ofcourse the server will not allow it and this contact form is posted on this server. Is there a way to be able to post my page on the server that I have, but have a contact form on it which will somehow bypass the "un-allowment" of getting an e-mail from the contact form and somehow call something such as Googles free smtp? Then have the contact form just send the information or contact the smtp.gmail.com and e-mail it to my Google mail or another e-mail adress? So I am trying to bypass the e-mail, or lack of of the hosting company.

Sending mail through SMTP such as Gmails'. But doing it within a server that doesn't allow sending email
if you created the form from scratch including the send mail script then edit the server name, if this form is a template from a hosting provider, most likely its hardcoded and you can't change it

It's not ur local server. So u need the javax.mail.Authenticator to connect to it even for sending. Carefully go through the API Docs. Then Subclass Authenticator and override method getPasswordAuthentication().

POP3 email can be painful to troubleshoot. By "bouncing back" to you mean it isn't letting you log in, or are you logging in and it's it sending back emails that you send?





Edit: I would say your problem then is either your login information or a firewall/isp issue. If your email service isn't provided by your ISP, they might be blocking POP3. It could also be a port forwarding issue with your software or router firewall (looks like the guy below me knows which ports to foward).
