Checked the account settings under options. Seems OK, but fiddling with it did not fix basic problem. However, at first the reported error required me to submit a password to SMTP. None worked. Fiddling removed this password notice, but SMTP still did not work.
I used Thunderbird for email, but suddenly the Yahoo Verizon SMTP server failed to accept my outgoing. Why?
Your port settings may be wrong, contact Yahoo Verizon and ask
for a different port setting
